Chapter I
The Practice
Hazratganj, Lucknow · By appointment
For more than three decades, people have been bringing their hardest conversations to a quiet consulting room in Lucknow — marriages that had gone silent, teenagers who had gone inward, anxieties that had outlived their reasons. Dr. Anjali Gupta has spent her working life on the other side of those conversations, first as a student of clinical psychology, then as a clinician, and for many years now as one of the city's most experienced practitioners of family and marital therapy.
A doctorate in psychology and an M.Phil in Medical & Social Psychology sit behind the practice — but what patients tend to mention first is the manner: unhurried, plain-spoken, and impossible to shock. In a field that has grown crowded with quick fixes, this remains a practice of careful listening, honest feedback, and therapy that respects how long a problem took to build.
What people bring through the door
- Families
Households where every talk ends in blame — parents and children, siblings, in-laws under one roof — learning, slowly, to speak again.
- Couples
Marriages at a fork: silence, suspicion, drifting, or the aftermath of a breach. Worked on directly, together, without taking sides.
- Individuals
Anxiety that has outgrown its trigger, moods that stay low, sleep that has gone strange — understood and treated, not merely medicated.
- Students & careers
Board results, competitive exams, career forks and the particular pressure of being the family's hope.
“Some problems are solved in a season. Others are managed for a lifetime, with dignity. Knowing which is which — that is thirty years of work.”
If this is the year you stop postponing it
Appointments at Hazratganj run by the register, not by walk-in. Send a message and you'll hear back about the earliest slot — usually within the day.

The Clinician
Training · Roles · Record
Dr. Anjali Gupta's training followed the classical route of Indian clinical psychology — a master's degree in psychology, followed by an M.Phil in Medical & Social Psychology, the discipline's clinical licence of its era, and then a doctorate. It is a formation that predates the current crop of short certificates: years of supervised clinical work in medical settings, where diagnoses are made alongside psychiatrists, not apart from them.
Her professional home has been Nur Manzil Psychiatric Centre — one of Lucknow's long-standing psychiatric institutions — where her public profile records her as head of the department of clinical psychology. There, and from her own consulting rooms in Hazratganj, she has built a practice weighted toward the work experience teaches best: families, couples, and the emotional health of people carrying both.
Three decades of practice leave their own marks on how a clinician works. Sessions are structured but rarely rigid. Feedback comes early and honestly — a family paying for therapy deserves to know what they are actually treating. And nothing about a human being surprises her anymore, which patients discover, usually with relief, in the first fifteen minutes.
“Placeholder — a line in Dr. Gupta's own words about why she still practices, to be collected and placed here.”
Chapter III
The Way of Working
What therapy here actually looks like
The first conversation
Nothing clinical happens before something human does. The first session is a long, unhurried telling — the history, the hurts, what has been tried and what failed — interrupted only to make sure the story is understood correctly. Families are asked to arrive together; individuals alone. By the end of it, you will have heard, in plain words, what Dr. Gupta thinks is happening and what she proposes to do about it.
In-person consultations at her Hazratganj rooms — the preferred mode for couples and families, where the room itself does part of the work.
For patients outside Lucknow, or between visits. The register runs the same; the work does not change.
Follow-ups and check-ins between sessions, where the matter is brief and the history is already known.
With couples and families
Joint sessions have their own rules, stated up front: no secret alliances, no relaying of what was said here, and no session that becomes a courtroom. Where one member needs private support, separate sessions are arranged honestly — never covertly. It is an old-fashioned way of working, and it survives because it works.
Confidentiality, in plain words
What is said in these rooms stays in these rooms, within the limits Indian law and safety require. Those limits are explained in the first session — before anything personal is shared, not after. For minors, parents are kept genuinely informed without being told every confidence a teenager needs to keep.

Words & Numbers
Where the reputation actually lives — on platforms you can check
A practice this old is not short of opinions. The honest ones, though, are the kind patients write on independent platforms, under their own names, where the clinic cannot edit them. Those are the only words quoted here — along with the numbers that back them.

“Thirty years of experience shows in the first session itself. She understood our family problem in a way no one had put into words before.”
“Very patient and practical. She gave us clear guidance about our marriage when everyone else only gave opinions.”

Chapter VI
Fair Questions
The ones families actually ask, before they book
What does a consultation cost, and how long is it?
₹1,500 per consultation as listed on Practo ↗, confirmed at booking. A session runs about 45 minutes confirm duration; first consultations often run longer, at the same fee.
Do we come together, or one at a time?
Families and couples begin together — the problem lives between people, so the first look at it should too. Individuals come alone. If a mix would serve you better, that is decided after the first conversation, openly.
How many sessions will this take?
An honest estimate is offered after the first session, once the problem has actually been seen. Some matters resolve in a handful of meetings; long-standing family patterns are measured in months. Either way, you will not be kept guessing.
Are medicines prescribed here?
Psychologists do not prescribe. Where medication seems indicated, the case is discussed for a psychiatric opinion — the classical arrangement, and one reason the Nur Manzil association matters.
Can we consult from outside Lucknow?
Yes — video and phone consultations are routine for patients at a distance, and for follow-ups between in-person visits. Register your preference and a slot will be offered.
Will what we say be kept private?
Within the limits law and safety require — explained before anything personal is shared, not after. Couples and families get one added assurance: nothing said here is relayed privately to any one member.
